Artist's Description
The Motor Launch 'Sundowner'. The Sundowner has been a resident of Ramsgate Harbour, Kent, UK for many, many years. It is kept in wonderful condition and is a joy to see. It is not preserved by any group but is still privately owned, although I do not know who the owners are now. The Sundowner was one of the 'Little Ships' that braved the wrath of the German Forces in 1940 and made numerous trips rescuing the British Expeditionary Force from Dunkirk. What is a relatively unknown fact is that the owner of the Sundowner at the time of Dunkirk who made the rescue trips is a chap known as Lieutenant Commander Lightoller. Commander Lightoller was the only surviving Senior Officer from aboard the Titanic when it sank in 1912.
